Working for Edinburgh West
We have two councillors Kate Mackenzie (Ward 1 - Almond) and Jeremy Balfour (Ward 6 - Corstorphine/Murrayfield) who have for many years worked to assist and represent the electors in their wards.
Our Westminster Candidate Stewart Geddes was born in Glasgow but was brought up in Brazil, returning to Scotland in his teens to complete his education. He is still fluent in Portuguese.
Stewart enjoys outdoor pursuits, particularly hill walking, off road driving and skiing. In his younger days he was a keen rugby player leading his local team as captain and also as chairman of the sports club. Nowadays his main hobbies are motorcycling and travel.
Stewart's other passion is his church life. He has taken an active role in his local church which has included being part of the team that runs the sound desk. Stewart has a passion for the homeless and helps as a volunteer on a regular basis with the Bethany Christian Trust Care van as well as fundraising for another homeless charity, The Rock Trust. Stewart is married with two children and lives in the constituency.
Since his selection as candidate in late 2007, Stewart has been actively involved supporting our local councillors and the local community in ensuring that the development of the former college campus in Cramond is completed correctly, opposing the closure of Drumbrae Primary School, and consulting with community groups about the proposed Forth Replacement crossing and issues arising from Transport projects in the city.
Stewart has been out with the Marine Conservation Society helping with their regular beach cleans at Cramond and has also joined in with local people picking up litter with the greenferry project at Queensferry.
Stewart said: I was delighted to be selected to contest the Edinburgh West Constituency. I am working closely with the two local Councillors and campaign on issues that affects everyone in the area. Whenever I meet people there is a real desire for change and unhappiness with a tired and discredited government and I have been meeting with many people across the Constituency and enjoy discussing my positive vision for Edinburgh West. From Corstorphine to Cramond, Murrayfield to Kirkliston, South Queensferry to Drumbrae, Newbridge to Barnton and Cramond to Ratho.
