Dear all,
I write this letter from Manchester where I am attending the Conservative Party Conference. There is a sense of optimism here, tempered by a realisation of the awful mess the next Conservative government is going to have to deal with
By the time you read this David Cameron will have made his speech, and we fully expect a strong rallying call and a commitment to rebuilding our broken nation.
Brave decisions by George Osborne in the terms of pay freezes in order to protect jobs in the public services have been announced, predictably opposed by certain Union leaders who simply fail to get it.
We also heard from double Olympic champion Kelly Holmes about her passion for sport in schools. She has a vision for a schools Olympics. This is a brilliant idea, and I support her in her plan. If this plan gets off the ground, I will be pushing to ensure that school children from Scotland are represented at every level, competing in a genuine British set of games.
On the subject of Britain, Annabel Goldie reminded us that we are campaigning in a British General election. We are campaigning to elect our national parliament. In that context, we need to understand that there are only two candidates for Prime Minister, Whoever is leading the Labour party and David Cameron for the Conservative party. Alec Salmond isn't even standing for Parliament, as such his suggestion that he might try to obstruct a televised debate between the leaders of the main parties is simply absurd, especially since he failed to turn up to previous debates with Annabel Goldie.
The next election will be an opportunity for the people to have their say on the last 12 years of Labour rule. Do we make do with 5 more years of Labour destruction or do we call on David Cameron and the Conservative party to rebuild our broken society, serving all the people across the United Kingdom.
I know which I want, and I ask you to support me in our campaign.
Regards
Stewart Geddes
Conservative Westminster Candidate for Edinburgh West
