Barnton Hotel update
Cllr Kate MacKenzie recently asked the listed building planner to visit the hotel to look at the security (or lack of security) of the building and surrounding fence. Cllr MacKenzie then asked Lindsay to join her a couple of weeks later on a visit to see if the security had been upgraded as promised by the developer. Kate and Lindsay were horrified to see a group of young people who had entered the derelict building by a side door and were seemingly unaware of the perilous nature of the site.
Cllr MacKenzie immediately alerted the police to the danger to the young people on the site, however when the police arrived the building was empty. The long term future of the hotel is still an issue which needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency.
The security has since been upgraded but Kate will continue to alert the department to any further breaches of security.
Since the hotel was shut down in 2004, Kate has been closely monitoring the situation and asking for action to be taken by the planning department.
